the world map was purchased on etsy & so was the baby quilt, i made the baby mobile out of felt :)

the white dresser was actually green when I found it and painted it white and added new knobs. the cost of the dresser was $25 :)

french pin board, i kept looking at stores but had no luck, everything i found was really girly & i came across this one at an estate sale.

Baby is due November 4th, today is the 2nd I'm anxiously waiting to meet him &

see who he's going to look like!

Maternity Project: 28-31 weeks

I've totally been slacking on posting photos and taking them...

this pregnancy is taking a lot out of me, but I'm sure you understand.

So for week 28 I was unable to find a Chinese cabbage & week 29 I was rushed so had my husband take the photo outside of the beach house we were at :)

week 28

baby weighs two and a quarter pounds like a Chinese Cabbage &

measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels

week 29

baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds like a butternut squash and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel.

week 30

baby is about 15.7 inches long and weighs almost 3 lbs. the weight of a cabbage

week 31

baby measures over 16 inches long.

He weighs about 3.3 pounds try carrying 4 naval oranges and is heading into a growth spurt.

The past week has been pretty horrible for Texas!

The past few months we have been in a drought and on Monday wild fires broke out in Central Texas and then another North of Houston.

You step outside and it smells of smoke and the skies are hazy.

Images of smoke can be seen from space.

1300 Homes have been estimated to have burned down, families losing everything they have in a matter of seconds.

Baby is the length of an english hothouse cucumber, 14 inches and weighs about 2 lbs.

He is now able to hear my husband and I when we have a conversation.

Vintage Maternity & what to wear

I'd though I would share some tips on how to wear vintage while your pregnant.

Regular maternity wear is so pricey, I believe its because its called MATERNITY & they use more material on certain items.

Dressing in the summer can be quite easy, as long as it isn't too long or polyester.

The heat will get to you.

Here are some of my picks for maternity wear.

1. Vintage Mexican Dress

(this a photo of my belly during our maternity project)

Mexican Dresses are great for maternity, since there tent dress,

nice & flowy, room for your growing belly.

You can always belt it at high waist.

2. Caftan

another light weight dress, with room for your belly to grow.

3. Skirts

You can do cotton skirts, full skirts, maxi skirts as long as it has an elastic waist

and sits on your high waist. Skirts are easy to pair with tanks or blouses.

Who says you can't wear sequin while pregnant!

Great for a night out on the town or a fancy dinner, you can pair a sequin jacket with your maternity shorts or maternity skinny jeans. Just add a tank underneath...what a great way to show off your belly

maternity project: 25 weeks

25 weeks & baby weighs about 1 1/2 pounds,

about the weight of a rutabaga and is about 13 1/2 inches long.

He is starting to gain his baby fat.

This week has been a good week, minus my toes starting to swell,

I don't think the Texas heat is helping any.

These past 6 months have gone by so fast! I can't believe he will be here in 3 months.

I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET HIM.

And we still have no name, any names suggestions you may have?

I find it more difficult for a boy, then a girl, you can be more creative with girls, boys not so much.

We have a list but Hugo & I can't decide on any.

maternity project : week 24

Week 24, baby is just over a pound and is he is almost one foot long.

He is kicking & moving more this week.

maternity project : week 22 & 23

Week 22...baby is the length of a spaghetti squash, about 11 inches and almost weighs one pound.

He is starting to look like a miniature newborn :)

Week 23 is the size of a large mango and weighs one pound now.

I know it's pretty weird how it goes from spaghetti squash to mango, but that what baby center says.

I can see him squirm under my clothes as he kicks and punches me.

I am at 25 weeks now going on 26 so I am a bit behind on my project.

I had a bad 24th week, I had a sinus infection, a root canal & slipped off the back porch on to my back, so I was resting & letting my back heal.

Just soreness but baby is OK and I'm feeling much better.

I have a few maternity projects in the work.

I feel like I've been nesting for the past month. We had our guest bathroom re-done & a custom built in shelf. Next project is to clear out the middle room & paint it for the baby.

I also came across a dresser 2 weeks ago at a thrift store that I got for $24, we are going to paint it white to go with the baby's crib. We are doing a nautical theme, I'm sooo excited.

I've been stocking up on all things baby :)

Any good suggestions from you mommies out there on what I should add to my list?

I'm almost 6 months and then its 3 months to go till he gets here...time flies!

baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long :)

So I figured out how to register on etsy for baby stuff, the website is babyli.st, you can register anything on the web without having to stick to one store. so exciting....because there's seriously some cute baby stuff on etsy.

19 WEEKS

Baby weighs 8 1/2 ounces and is about 6 inches from head to toe.

WEEK 20

baby measures about 10 1/2 ounces and 10 inches from head to heel.

AMAZING how the baby grows so much in one week...no wonder my stomach was so itchy last week.

the banana was actually to short, so we substituted a plantain, which is still in the banana family...

also kind of of proper since the baby is half Cuban ;)

And we found out the sex this week...

last week, i went out to a small town just north of Houston.

my friend Jennifer's dads house, out in the country. tried to get there before it got too hot, with the temperature being at 90 degrees by 11am, its pretty disgusting out.

The baby is the size of a turnip, he/she is 5 inches long from head to rump.

week 18

baby is the length of a bell pepper measuring 5 1/2 in long.

I love my little bell pepper :)

I'm at 19 weeks this week, and this Friday I will at 20.

We find out the sex next Monday on the 20th, sooo excited!

I am starting to feel baby move more, at first it felt like a little fish swimming and now I can feel the baby moving. No kicks yet, but soon enough I'm sure.

I took a picture of Baby Lemon on a tea cup, very proper I think ;)

15 weeks the apple of my eye

here he is about 4 inches, the actual size of the avocado is about 5 inches, (over estimated when I bought the avocado)

which is the size of the baby at 17 weeks, but I'm at 17 now and will post it next week

As my stomach grows bigger each day my search for cute vintage maternity continues.

I've been lucky to find two or three dresses on my own while thrifting but not much.

It's also hard because most vintage maternity is really thick polyester,

which isn't the best suitable for Texas weather, since its already in the 90s here.

So if you come across any cute vintage maternity finds, please remember prego ladies

like vintage too!

so this week babycenter said the fetus was the size of a medium shrimp and

another book I'm reading said it was the size of a plum. so since they were going by length it was 3 inches the closest I could find to 3 inches was this sour pickle.

and since i took a picture with a lime at 12 weeks, figured the lime & plum were the same so came up with something different. it worked perfect!

maternity project 8,9,10 weeks

so were having a baby!

so the first trimester is to blame for my lack of blogging and updates...haha but really i'm a total procrastinator.

Ahhh were so excited!

I can't say I came up with this fabulous idea on my own,

but we did want to document this in a special way.

pregnancy and food. well fruits and veggies actually.

i get a weekly email telling me how much the baby has grown.

This maternity project was inspired by reading A Cup Of Jo blog a few weeks ago,
and she shared the fabulous Carolee Beckham pregnancy updates.

here's what we have so far

8 weeks...

so so tiny... can you imagine at 6 weeks it was the size of grain of rice

9 weeks...

we spent some time at the beach this weekend

10 weeks...

interesting thing about kumquats these are hard to come across

& are a tad more sour then sweet.

Oh and a special thanks to my husband Hugo for taking the photos, even when I'm cranky and sleepy ;)

all though they were all fabulous, i cant wear clip ons, they always seem to slip off.

so this past Friday, i found an estate sale a few houses down from me.

i purchased a beautiful dress, that need to be dry cleaned badly, to give some life back to it.

i bought an old type writer, to put in my office once its actually set up

and i purchased this puzzle.

quite lovely. her eyes are captivating.

i knew there had to be pieces missing, since the puzzle is from the 50s.

but for $1, i thought i could give some life to this puzzle too.

radiant as a rose, is the name of the genesee puzzle.

completed puzzle. only 5 missing pieces.

I was inspired to choose Mia Farrow after watching Rosemary's Baby last night.

I'd never seen the whole movie, just parts of it.

Mia Farrow is the leading actress in the movie, as she is Rosemary.

Adored the baby doll dresses, short hair and bold colors in the movie.

It wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be, it was more of a thriller.

I'm not big on horror films, so will just call it a modern day thriller.

I can see how it may have been scary in 1968.

and had also been married to Frank Sinatra while filming the movie.

my puffy big shoulder jacket was featured in Fashion safe for work issue,

in the etsy fashion newsletter yesterday.

i didn't even know this letter existed, seeesh what else am I missing out on!

Thanks to Heather at Texas Vintage Things for sharing the info with me or I would have never known.

And am now subscribed to the etsy fashion letter and a few others.

That's pretty exciting!

cupcakes from celebrity cupcakes, were enjoyed on Friday afternoon.

the banana cupcake with cream cheese was fantastic!

lately i have been very inspired to cook more,

but not just the normal ordinary dishes i make, something different.

i bought this book last week, called Cook Yourself Thin, you can go here for free recipes online.

on Wednesday i decide to make shrimp and grits.

talk about fast and easy!

this Saturday i also decided it was time to transform my garage

into a much needed photo studio.

Fashion Icon Friday: Gilbert Adrian

Well Gilbert Adrian wasn't really an icon

but he did make a lot of beautiful famous actresses Fashion Icons.

Gilbert was the foremost "celebrity" costume designer in Hollywood.

He worked at MGM film studios, where he designed iconic pieces for film stars.

He also tailored a suit with wide shoulders and strong emphasis on the waist,

this was called the Coat Hanger Look.

the theme is Horror Films, they are wanting to do a 60s/70s campy theme fashion show.

7 thrifting tips

Hello ladies!

Today while I was out thrifting, it came to my attention that no one really

discusses how or where they do there thrifting/vintage shopping.

So for those who aren't expert shoppers, here's some of my tips.

1. When shopping for seasons, usually you want to buy a season ahead of the season.

You get great deals and can find amazing stuff.

Usually you want to do your research and find out what the trends are for that upcoming season.

But even if you find a fantastic vintage piece you can't miss out on, just grab it, you won't be sorry.

2. Go shopping on days that thrift stores have deals. Salvation Army usually is half off on Wednesdays.

Goodwill has specials certain days, and don't forget to check out your local charity shops for the days of the months they have specials.

Typically most will be at the end or beginning of the month since they are trying to get rid of merchandise.

3. To go on a GOOD Thrifting HUNT, because that's really what it is, a HUNT for hidden treasures.

You typically want to drive out to places outside the city limit, or the not so nicer parts of town.

In my case, I live in the city and all the good thrift stores by my house are over picked and over priced.

4. Don't be scared to get dirty!

Be sure to bring hand sanitizer with you, because you touch tons of stuff while sifting through racks.

5. Dress comfortably and don't look to cute. Your walking and standing for long periods.

6. Oh and bring your own bags, I usually bring large recycle-able ones or cloth.

7. Bring cash or check if available, some places,

surprise - surprise don't take credit cards. ( i know where in 2011,whats wrong with these people)

this is my cocker spaniel, Bella Donna, and as I sit here typing she is laying on my lap, with her head comfortably positioned in my elbow.

her assisting abilities includes, lounging, sleeping, eating, looking cute and barking when ever someones at the door. (ahhhh the life)

oh and trying to keep herself warm on my lap on this cold 25 degree, Houston day.

So the past few weeks I haven't been sleeping to well,maybe because of the Holiday's or that my mind is always on. Monday night I decided to take a relaxing bubble bath. I highly recommend for all of you to do this at least once before the New Year, you will feel so relaxed, not a care in the world and will sleep like a baby. I think I need to do it more often, I always say I don't have enough time but it's just an excuse, maybe because I'm to lazy to draw up the bath. lol
